Hodder Valley Show Fell Race 2009

Despite one or two “behind the scenes” organisational glitches, this year’s race appears to have been well received by the all the runners, who enjoyed the new route to Dunsop Head. Having never used this venue or route previously, there was no existing record and Mark Chippendale’s storming run of 48 minutes and 53 seconds was faster than what we had expected. Local lad Rob Walker from Whitendale lead home the juniors, who ran the senior’s course as far as the crossing of Back Lane, then returned over the same demanding, undulating cross country route. Thanks to all 66 seniors and 11 juniors for turning the fixture into two good races, to the land owners and tenant farmers for allowing us to cross their land, to the members of Bowland Fell Runners, their friends and families who turned out to assist with the organisation and marshalling of what is a “marshal intensive” course and also to members of the Hodder Valley Show committee for hosting our race within their day’s intensive programme; and also laying on a day of superb autumn weather – Bowland at its best.
