At regular intervals throughout the afternoon, the renowned Slaidburn Silver Band will play for your entertainment.
The Hodder Valley is very proud to be the home of this splendid Band established over 100 years ago. The Band have maintained the tradition of playing for many local events since its onset, and in 1989 was honoured by an invitation to play before Her Majesty The Queen during a visit to the Hodder Valley. At the turn of the century, a March was commissioned by William Rimmer bearing the village and Band’s name – Slaidburn. This march is probably in the library of every brass band in the country and is still a top selling march. A more recent claim to fame is the award of the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s New Year Honours 2015 to the conductor John Cowking in recognition of his musical services in the Hodder Valley. John joined the band in 1967, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather.
