The Hodder Valley Show prides itself on being a traditional agricultural and horticultural show and on being the perfect family day out, with something for everyone to enjoy. Every year we are visited by upwards of 3000 people, experiencing a slice of rural life in an idyllic setting.

Our Presidents this year, Geoff and Margaret Harrison welcome all visitors to the show stating that "It is a great honour to be asked as president of the 2012 Hodder Valley Show, our family have a long history of assisting to run, competing and supporting the show which is an important event in the Valley's annual calendar".

Main ring events

We are currently in the process of planning our main ring entertainment for our 2012 show. In 2011 we featured local lad Matthew Alpe and friend Ben Butterworth in the Inch Perfect Trials Display Team, who will wow spectators with their skill, control, incredible jumps and leaps is a professional, fun, exciting and dynamic motorcycle trials display team providing exhilarating action and quality.

FOOD HALL with 14 local food producers

We are very proud of our food hall bursting with delicious local produce including locally produced cheeses, pies, cakes and fudge, to mention but a few. There is also the opportunity to buy locally reared meat.
We have a very successful Fell Race with runners coming from all over the North West to test their skills up and down our very rugged and beautiful valley.

Craft stalls,

The Craft Stalls offer a huge variety of beautiful jewellery, handmade soaps and cards as well as knitted garments and artwork.

Horticulture and Baking

The tables in the Horticulture Tent groan under the weight of Giant Marrows, beautiful ripe tomatoes as well as peas, beans ,cabbages and carrots and the mis-shapen vegetable class never fails to make everyone laugh.

The flapjack, fruit scones, cakes and savouries are all a marvel with the decorated cakes being truly spectacular.

The floral art and flower classes are a sight to behold, with amazing arrangements and baskets of garden flowers.

Children’s Section

The Children’s Section has incredible Vegetable Animals as well as 3d model vehicles with scary sea sculptures and beautiful flower collages. There is also an abundance of photos and very neat handwriting, not to mention the pebbles and plant pots all very brightly decorated by the children.

Traditional Agricultural Show

The Agriculture Section is a show case for both cattle and sheep, with over 42 cattle and 66 sheep classes, not to mention all the Young Farmers livestock classes. We also have a very busy Heavy Horse Section with this being a Silver Spoon event, attracting lots of entries.

Sheep also feature in both the Sheep Shearing Display, with all the local young shearers showing off their skills and making shearing look easy, with competitions and explanations of how it is all done. The Sheep Dogs Trials also prove very popular with the Sheep Dogs and Handlers never failing to impress with their incredible skills.

Visitors are also entertained in the afternoon by our very own Slaidburn Silver Band, with their rousing tunes to get everyone’s feet tapping.

All in all, a fantastic day out with something for everyone at a traditional agricultural and horticultural show, showcasing all that is wonderful about our beautiful valley. Please come and join us, we would love to see you.

Now in it's 68th year the Hodder Valley Show, a traditional agricultural and horticultural show, offers a fantastic day out for all the family. We are unique in the fact that the show is hosted by the villages of Dunsop Bridge, Newton-in-Bowland and Slaidburn in turn, so no two years are the same and visitors can enjoy the fabulous scenery with breath-taking views of our beautiful valley.

The show opening times are 10am – 6pm, last admission 4.30pm.
